Buying books via this website
Anyone can purchase our titles using this site. If you live in the UK books will normally reach you within a week or so; overseas will obviously take longer (telephone +44 (0)1524 840111 or EMAIL US for more details.
By telephone
If you prefer to place an order by telephone please phone us on 01524 840111 or 840555. Office hours are 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday–Friday. In general the same prices, terms and offers will apply as when ordering online. We normally ask for payment with telephone orders, usually by credit card. We can accept most types of credit card, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Switch and Solo. If you prefer to pay by cheque or postal order we can take your order by telephone, inform you of the amount payable and despatch your books after your cheque has cleared. If you have any queries, don't hesitate to call.
In bookshops
We would, of course, urge all customers to support their local bookshops wherever practicable. Good bookshops should have at least some of our titles on their shelves for you to browse, generally in the History or the Local Interest sections. If the bookshop does not stock the title(s) you want, note down the full details of the book(s) – author, title, ISBN (take care as a hardback edition will have a different ISBN to the softback) and price – and your bookshop will be able to order you the books either from us or from a wholesaler.
All major bookshop chains buy books from us regularly, so you should not experience any difficulties. If you do, order the books direct from us via this website!
DO NOT send your credit card details to us by email, as this is not encrypted and not at all secure. If you have a general enquiry about a book which is not answered by the information on this site, do feel free to EMAIL US with your query. We will try to answer such emails within a day or two.
Ordering before publication
From time to time we advertise special pre-publication offers. These might simply involve a discounted price for orders placed - and paid for - before the book is published. We will acknowledge the order and send the book(s) as soon as they are published. If you change your mind in the meantime, you can cancel the order and get a refund.
The other type of offer we organise are subscriptions: the details of each offer vary slightly, but basically anyone who pays the subscription gets the following:
- a discount off the full retail price of the book;
- we often print a List of Subscribers in the book itself as a token of our appreciation of your support for the publication;
- your books are usually sent to you before they are available more generally in the shops;
- in some cases a limited edition hardback is ONLY available to subscribers.
