How to find us
Carnegie are based on the southern outskirts of the historic city of Lancaster. Carnegie House was built in 1894 and originally had its own private driveway up the hill from Scotforth Road. This was built over in the 1970s, so nowadays we have to use the old servants' entrance off Chatsworth Road. Click HERE for a map of how to find us.
By car from the south
From Junction 33 of the M6, come north towards Lancaster city centre on the A6, through Galgate and past Lancaster University and the traffic lights at Booth's supermarket. Stay on the A6 towards Lancaster. After the pedestrian crossing at St Paul's primary school, take the first left, which is Chatsworth Road. Drive to the top of the hill on Chatsworth Road and turn sharp left into our cobbled driveway. (This narrow turning is at the end of the left-hand row of terraces.) Come through the gates and you should find plenty of parking space.
By car from the north
Lancaster has an idiosyncratic one-way system and unless you know the city well we would always suggest by-passing the centre of the city, staying on the M6 to take the Lancaster South junction (J33). From here follow the directions of how to find us from the south. If you want to brave Lancaster city centre, follow signs for South and Lancaster University and come south out of Lancaster on the A6. The road climbs all the way through Greaves. About 250m after the brow of the hill you will see St Paul's church (Neo-romanesque, Paley & Austin) on the right. Chatsworth Road is second on the right after the church, just before the pedestrian crossing.
By train
Lancaster is on the main west-coast main line and, Network Rail works notwithstanding, the service is excellent from both north and south, much less good from the east. Once you arrive at the station we would recommend taking a taxi to Carnegie House. Tell the taxi driver to take you to Chatsworth Road, Scotforth, as there is also a Chatsworth Road in Morecambe, and you don't want to go there by mistake!
